Importance Of Casting

Importance Of Casting

One of the first steps of the pre-production process is the casting. The casting is a very important part of the overall process as you can’t have a film without a story and you can’t a have a story without characters. There are may different types of characters to be cast. For example the more subtle roles such as background actors don’t necessarily need to be ‘cast’ In fact, background actors are usually volunteers, and not paid for their role. Although they may not be deemed as important roles, they are however very necessary throughout a feature film. For example, if a scene was to be shot in the middle of London, which is the busiest city in the country. It would look unrealistic witch just the leading actors being apart of it. Therefore background actors are a vital part of making certain scenes look real and authentic. Supporting and lead actors however are roles that need to be cast. There will be casting directors that watch potential actors audition tapes and hand pick the actors that they believe are the best people to play certain characters.
The crew is arguably the most important part of a pre production process as they are responsible for everything, from lighting, to cinematography, to positioning cameras and 100’s of other things. The producers and directors being the most important part of the crew. They are also responsible for establishing the look of the film. For example, by using lighting to set a mood. The use of red light could insinuate that something sinister is about to happen in a particular scene. And the use of red light could mean the scene being shot has a jubilant vibe.
